Introducing HeadsUp: invite pages that get everyone there
Three weeks ago I planted a flag for Scaffy. Today I'm planting a second one, for a very different kind of project. It's called HeadsUp, and it exists because of a problem everyone recognises: the plan lives in the group chat, and the group chat is where plans go to die.
The idea came straight out of my own routine. Whenever I host something, I write the invitation as a Notion page, because I like laying the details out properly: the where, the when, what to bring. Then comes the unglamorous part, manually sending that link to twenty-plus people, one at a time, across whatever platform each person happens to be on. Somewhere in the middle of yet another round of copy-paste, the obvious thought landed: I could just build an app that takes an invitation in the detailed layout I like to write and bulk sends it by text or email.
You know the shape of it. Someone suggests a dinner, a birthday, a housewarming. Half the thread reacts with a thumbs up, two people ask questions that were already answered, and a week out nobody actually knows who is coming. The tools that are supposed to fix this want your guests to install an app or create an account, which for most people is a bigger ask than just showing up.
What it is
HeadsUp turns any plan into a beautiful invite page. You send it as a link by text, guests RSVP right there on the page, and you see exactly who is in, tracked per guest. No app for your guests to install, no account for them to create. The RSVPs take care of themselves so you can stop chasing the thread.
A different kind of project
This one is not like Scaffy. Scaffy is open-source developer tooling, MIT licensed, something you deploy yourself. HeadsUp is a consumer product and it won't be open source. It's a passion project I'm building as a real app, and when it launches it will be available to anyone in Australia.
Scaffy isn't going anywhere. I'm juggling both, which mostly means this blog now has two threads: the deep, code-heavy Scaffy series continues, and HeadsUp posts will show up alongside it as the build progresses. They exercise very different muscles, which is half the appeal.
Where it stands
Right now there is a coming-soon page with a waitlist at headsup.rsvp. Like the Scaffy post, this is an announcement, not a launch. There's a lot of build between here and something you can send your friends. If you want to know the moment it's ready, the waitlist is the place. More to come.
